Dr. Flavio Franchina

Postdoctoral Researcher

OBiAChem, University of Liège

Flavio graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the University of Messina in 2010. Right after, he started the Ph.D. program at the analytical/food-chemistry division in the same university, where he worked as a post-doc after the doctorate. His research there was devoted to the development of advanced analytical techniques (chromatographic and mass spectrometric) for the evaluation of complex matrices (food, biological, flavour&fragrance, petrochemical).

After a 2-years research period at Dartmouth College (USA), where he expanded his background in the context of clinical research (breath analysis, pathogens in vitro volatile metabolites, data analysis etc.), he joined the OBiAChem Group at the University of Liège to refine and extend the high-level research for life-science applications and fundamental studies on method development and optimization for either sampling and detection in untargeted/targeted analysis.

He recently received the John Phillips award for his outstanding contributions to the field of GC×GC and he is listed in the ‘Top 40 Under 40’ in analytical science by the Analytical Scientist magazine.
